Palma de Mallorca international airport is one of the biggest in Spain and atracts tourism all over Europe, the persistent and recurrent leaking roof problems made the property carry a project forward that consited on remaking the whole decks, which implied the thermal insulation, calculation and performing of new mortar slopes, the waterproofing and its protection.
In the thermal insulation item, the project opted up for a 45 density poliurethane foam which form a 3 cm layer all over the surface, in which we previously had applied a two component mortar to create a vapour barrier.
The formation of the slopes was made with M7,5 premixed plant mortar pumped out to the decks where we screded, evened and compacted in order to finally floating it mechanically, creating a 6 cm thick mortar layer to receive the lining. During this process, we executed all the expansion joints in each deck according to plans.
The waterproofing consisted in a two component high temperature mechanically sprayed polyurethane over the levelled and primed surface.
Finally, as a protective coating for the waterproofing liner, we used an alifatic UV resistant polyurethane.
All these processes were performed all aver the approximately 40.000 m2 of the extension of the decks in the airport buildings.
